call me crazy but going to the wake of a woman you didn't know, just to get cosy with her grieving husband is an absolutely wild way to behave??

It makes perfect sense that, on the big Entertainment Weekly cover for Contact—a movie supposedly about a love so cosmic it transcends time and space—Jodie Foster and Matthew McConaughey look less like star-crossed lovers and more like they’re auditioning for a Gap ad. Forget selling romance; they’re selling denim.
It makes sense because for 27 years, one thing has united Contact fans and foes alike: Jodie Foster and Matthew McConaughey have zero romantic chemistry. Like, none. But as someone who will happily defend this movie until the end of time (or at least until we make contact with intelligent life), I’m here to tell you—it doesn’t matter.
When Carl Sagan wrote his novel in 1984, he wasn’t crafting a rom-com; he was asking big, messy, existential questions. By the time the film premiered 13 years later, the world had changed, but Contact was ready for it. It wasn’t just about aliens or wormholes; it was about us—our politics, our belief systems, and the tricky dance between science and faith. The shadow of Reagan’s trickle-down economics and Jerry Falwell’s moral crusades lingered over the story, giving it an edge that feels eerily relevant today.
Forty years after Sagan dreamed up Ellie Arroway and Palmer Joss, we’re still having the same debates. Science versus religion. Fact versus faith. Head versus heart. And it’s no accident that Ellie and Palmer—played by Foster and McConaughey—physically embody these opposites. They’re like magnets pushed together the wrong way: they don’t stick. And honestly? That’s the point.
Think about it—some of the most compelling pairings in pop culture thrive on this kind of tension. Fleabag and the Hot Priest, whose connection is as much about God as it is about desire. Jack Shepherd and John Locke on Lost, whose debates about faith and logic had life-or-death stakes. Contact isn’t trying to be a steamy romance. It’s asking bigger questions. It’s about two people whose differences elevate the story, not derail it.
So, no, Ellie and Palmer won’t sweep you off your feet. But maybe, just maybe, that’s the secret sauce. Because while Contact isn’t the most romantic love story of the ‘90s, it is a love story—between humanity and the cosmos, between inquiry and belief, between us and what lies out there. And in a world that still struggles to reconcile science and faith, that feels pretty romantic to me.

" –WE RARELY BECOME HEROES."

Judith whose position with the Cohort means she's supposed to be authoritative and decisive and in charge. Judith whose actual experience is purely political and ceremonial to this point. Judith who has more experience with adept birthday parties than the front lines. Judith who is faced with the murder of two house scions and their adepts right under her nose and panics. Judith who knows she should be in control of the situation and gets pushback in every direction when she tries to assert order. Judith who decides to become a person of action instead of ceremony. Judith who was promised a glorious, honorable battlefield death, nearly died in a chair in a small room on a remote planet with her dead cavalier at her feet. Judith who was rescued by the enemy.

Do you ever think about how sad it must be to go from a normal(ish) life to then the chaos of faerune and not know when you get there because now you've always been there.
But at the same time, wasn't always there?
Anyways Jodie thoughts tonight
Good distraction from the latest episode.
Dragging a ramble out from my drafts to respond to this because we really are on a wavelength
Do you ever think how sad it must be to wake up one day and have all of your friends suddenly not know you, even outright dislike you? Sure, Jodie implies that he never got along with Glenn in his timeline, but he seems genuinely stunned when Darryl, Henry and Ron are rude to him. It’s easy for us to overlook that fact, but these were people he had been traveling with for months. “Oh but it’s Jodie he’s so annoying-!” they’re all annoying! They’re also all FRIENDS still, even when they piss each other off. They fought together and played together and saved their kids together. They were his friends, his temporary family the same way the S1 dads were with each other before then, and then one day they just came back and didn’t know him anymore.
And Jodie can’t even go home afterwards. He can’t go back to his human life with his human friends because he isn’t human, his whole life has been a lie, the only friends who would get it aren’t his friends anymore. He has his son, sure, and he has Morgan, but that’s only two family members. One of which he gets divorced from! Isn’t that terribly lonely? Isn’t that heart-breaking? Isn’t it enough to make you lose it?

🥊 ❤️ ✂️ for every leader pls (emi, jodi, chihiro, taiyo, koyo, himiko, misato)
🥊 -What do they love to do? What do they hate to do?
Emi loves taking care of animals since that is her group's thing, though... She hates getting dirty. And since there are many animals in Zoo Sekai, she's bound to get dirty a whole lot.
Koyo loves hanging out with her friends:3 She hates having to plan their hangouts though, since Aoi, Kirara and Chiharu usually complain on the places she chooses
Jodi likes trying new things out! At the same time, he hates it. He tells himself "Okay, I'll try something new today!" Even though he hates change, there's a 50/50 chance on whether or not he'll do it.
Misato likes programming games as that's also her group's thing, but she hates testing out their games then realizing the amount of glitches.
Himiko loves going to malls. But she hates having to go up and down escalators, which is her biggest fear.
Taiyo loves playing the violin, of course! He hates writing sheet music though, Seiji is the composer so he doesn't have much problems, but when his partner in music is busy.... He has to do it.
Chihiro loves doing magic, but he hates having to prepare his tools for magic everytime.
❤️ - What is one of your OC’s best memories?
Emi's best memory would be getting her pet bunny.
Koyo's best memory was disbanding with Miyune and Kiri honestly, as she finally felt free and found Kirara and Chiharu after that.
Chihiro's best memory was when Chikao first smiled watching his magic.
Misato's best memory was when Naomi first confessed to her.
Himiko's best memory was meeting Kei for the first time.
Jodi's best memory was when Koyo encouraged him to make a DJ group.
Taiyo's best memory was hearing Seiji's melody for the first time.
✂️ - What is one of your OC’s worst memories?
When Taiyo was suddenly shunned out just for being too "bad", which basically ruined his self esteem.
When Emi's pet bunny got ran over by a car... (this is my third time saying this help me)
When Koyo and Jodi's friend, Jijin suddenly died that day.
When Chihiro was told by his little sister that she hated him.
When Himiko first got bad grades, which started the abuse.
When Misato was ignored by everyone cause her games weren't good enough.
